The Kalakaua Post Office Building was built in 1917, as the first post office of the Hawaiian Territory. The building was commissioned by King David Kalakaua and is on the Register of Historic Places as part of the State Historic Capital District.
The project began as a roof repair in 2016 and grew to a full scale renovation project in 2021. The construction is set in three Phases. Phase 1 included the structural and architectural restoration of the 6-story south tower, which was failing from severe deterioration of the structural steel. Phase 2 is the reroof of the tile roofed areas of the building and civil engineering of the site. Phase 3 is the reroof of the Post Office and low-slope roofs above of the Post Office and other Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing throughout the building.
AEPAC has provided plans, specifications and cost estimates which includes professional engineering, architectural, landscape architecture, land survey, environmental hazardous material testing and air monitoring, archaeological report and monitoring during construction, historic preservation studies, geotechnical soils report and monitoring during construction, and any other applicable professional design services necessary for the preparation of design documents and specifications.
